Grain quality

The objective of the ICARDA grain quality system is to assist the breeder in the selection of promising cereal and legume genotypes suitable for a particular end use. The quality data is related to processing, eating and nutritional quality.

For cereals the quality tests include flour milling quality, 1000 grain weight, protein content, moisture content and grain colour.

For food and forage legumes the quality tests include cooking quality, protein content, moisture content, 1000 grain weight and tests for anti-nutritional factors.
