Theib Oweis is water resources planning and management scientist with over 40 years of experience in research, development, and capacity building. His expertise is in management of water for agriculture, specifically water-scarce dry environment. Currently, he directs the Integrated Water and Land Management program at ICARDA out of Amman, Jordan.

His current research interests focus on water-use efficiency, water productivity, supplemental irrigation, water harvesting, and optimization of water use in agriculture to cope with climate change. He has authored over 200 journal articles, books and book chapters, and conference proceedings on the topics. Since joining ICARDA in 1991, he has advocated water productivity and water-saving practices in agriculture.

He was professor of irrigation and drainage engineering at the University of Jordan and is founder of Dar-Arai Irrigation and Water Consulting in Jordan. He served as distinguished guest professor at the Tottori University in Japan.

He is a member of several scientific associations, including the American Society of Civil Engineering and Jordan Engineers Association. He’s a recipient of a number of awards and honors for his contribution to the field.

He received his Ph.D. agricultural and irrigation engineering from Utah State University.
