ICARDA-CAC Organizes Third Steering Committee Meeting of ADB Project on Water and Soil Fertility Management in Central Asia

The Third Steering Committee Meeting (SCM) of the ADB project on “Improving Rural Livelihoods through Efficient On-farm Water and Soil Fertility Management in Central Asia” was held at Tashkent on 7 April, 2006. In all, about 30 participants, including Heads of NARS and leading scientists from Central Asian and the Caucasian countries, a representative of ADB, and scientists from ICARDA Headquarters and CAC Regional office attended the meeting.


Ninth ICARDA-CAC Regional Program Planning Meeting

Ninth ICARDA-CAC Regional Program Planning Meeting was held on 6 April 2006 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Welcome statement was made by Dr. Magdy Madkour, ADG (IC), ICARDA.


Meeting of the CGIAR Executive Committee held on April 4th in Tashkent, Uzbekistan

The main purpose of the gathering was to have an overall review of the whole Program and to create a bridge between its needs and the donor organizations. The Meeting, attended by Drs. Adel El-Beltagy, Joachim von Braun, Guram Alexidze, Magdy Madkour and Dr. Raj Paroda, was chaired by Mr. Martin Raiser, the World Bank Country Director for Uzbekistan. In it, a gap existing presently between the funding requirements of the Program as well as the efforts in resource mobilization undertaken by the Executive Committee, were emphasized.

Ninth Steering Committee Meeting of the CGIAR Program for CAC held in Tashkent

The ninth meeting of the Steering Committee of the CGIAR Eco-Regional Program for Sustainable Agriculture in Central Asia and the Caucasus (CAC) was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 3-5 April, 2005. More than 50 scientists from the CAC countries as well as from the seven CG centers and three IARCs as members of the Consortium attended the meeting. Mr. Martin Raiser from the World Bank, Dr. Tumurdavaa Bayarsihan from ADB, and Dr. Carl-Gustaf Thornstrom from Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) also participated.

A SPECIAL DONOR MEETING HELD IN MARRAKECH, MOROCCO

A special luncheon meeting for the CGIAR Program for Central Asia and the Caucasus (CAC) was organized in Marrakech , Morocco on 5 December, 2005 during AGM'05. The meeting was co-sponsored by the World Bank, ADB and Ministry of Agriculture, Syria . In all, 34 representatives of various CG Centers as partners of the Consortium, donor organizations and Science Council as well as CGIAR Secretariat participated.

THE THIRD NATIONAL COORDINATION MEETING ON WHEAT in Uzbeksitan

The Third National Coordination Meeting on Strengthening of Wheat Research Program in Uzbekistan was held on 27 August, 2005. In total, 62 scientists from 15 different organizations and Research institutes attended the meeting. Dr. A. Khanazarov, Deputy Minister and Director General, UzSPCA opened the meeting.

BRAINSTORMING SESSION ON AGRICULTURAL POLICIES AND TRADE RELATED ISSUES IN CENTRAL ASIA

A Brainstorming Session on Agricultural Policies and Trade Related Issues in Central Asia was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 29-30 July, 2005. The meeting was jointly organized by IFPRI and CGIAR-CAC Program Facilitation Unit (PFU).

Participation in the National Conference in Uzbekistan

A National Conference on "Concepts of farm development and adoption of new policy regulations" was organized on 3 June, 2005 in Tashkent by the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water Resources and Environment under the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
