FUTURE EVENTS
  • Dr. Barbara Rischkowsky, Project Coordinator, will visit Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in September 2009 to work with the project team on the final project reports for the integrated feed and livestock project and to participate in the Inception Workshop of the new IFAD-funded project on improved wool, cashmere, and mohair processing to be held in Tajikistan.
  • Dr. Joaquin Mueller, Project Consultant, will visit Central Asian region from 21 Sept. to 04 Oct. 2009 to follow-up on community-based breeding activities in Khudzand site, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan under the ongoing feed and livestock project.
  • Final Regional Workshop of the integrated feed and livestock project will be held on 7-11 December 2009 in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.

Kyrgyz Research Institute of Livestock, Veterinary and Pastures

Kyrgyz Livestock Research Institute, veterinary and pastures named after by Arstanbek Duysheev, was established in 2002 based on three separate institutions: livestock, veterinary and fodder production, pursuant to presidential decree on "Reorganization of the Kyrgyz Agrarian Academy" of 31 October, 2001. The decision of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic from January 5th, 2002 ¹7 on "Improving research and consultancy services in agriculture of the Kyrgyz republic" and order of Ministry of Agriculture ÊÐ ¹ 49 of 18 February 2002, as well as by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic on January 10, 2004, ¹7.

Institute is a leading academic institution of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Processing Industry of Kyrgyz Republic to address the problems of species transformation industries animal welfare and conservation epizooticheskogo strengthen food animal production.

Joint research of ICARDA and Kazakhstan scientists on Project "Community Action in Integrated and Market Oriented Feed-Livestock Production in Central and South Asia Project"

The movement of agriculture to market conditions, privatization of state property has led to the emergence of new agricultural farms in Kazakhstan, 95% of which were represented by small producers.

Low levels of investment, poor physical and technical base, the lack of high-grade seeds of forage crops, feed quality, harvested for progressive technology and lack of breeding animals to small businesses, the inadequacy of the earlier industrial technologies for the production of livestock products to farms and households dramatically reduce the rate of production of livestock products . Shown inadaptability new agricultural farms develop its activities in the new economic situation.

Tajik Scientific Research Institute of Livestock Breeding

The first research institution, which began a comprehensive planned research and development of zootechnical sciences in Tajikistan was the Republican Experimental Station of livestock, organized in December 1930, by the Order of NarKomZem of Tajikistan on November 29, 1930.

After a series of reorganizations, the Research Institute began its functionality on the base of the Experimental Station and now operates a leading scientific center of the republic to develop the critical issues of development of livestock in Tajikistan.

Sogd branch of Tajik Scientific Research Institute of Livestock Breeding

Natural climate and pastoralist forage conditions of the mountain, highland-lowland areas of Tajikistan favors breeding of goats. Vegetation territory of the republic in mountainous terrain (93%) most effectively be used only with the cultivation of these animals.

Wool-growing industry, as one part of the livestock industry, gives the national economy of high-value angora wool uniform type - mohair and meat-goat meat.

Tajikistan occupies a leading position in the former Soviet Union to breeding of wool-angora goats type. Given the importance, the improvement of the breed in late 1976 in Sogdi region (Khujand) was opened the branch of Tajik Scientific Research Institute of Livestock Breeding.
