| Established in 1976, in terms of law n°76/6, Institut
des Regions Arides (IRA) acts as a leading institution in research
and development to disseminate scientific knowledge on arid areas
and assess the impact of desertification indicators, changes and trends.
IRA principal objective is to keep up with aspirations of National, Sub-Regional, and Regional Action Plans to combat desertification, and to improve the lives of ordinary citizens affected by drought and desertification. |

IRA uniqueness lies in the fact that it brings together global and multidisciplinary approach to arid lands development. This securing a wide spectrum of scientific and field expertise, enabling IRA to address major National, Sub-Regional & Regional interdisciplinary problems related to desertification. This is done through the creation of relation network (Universities, NGO, Development Agencies ...), and the establishment of joint initiatives. |
