H.E. Mr Philippe Faure,
the Ambassador of France in Morocco, on behalf of the President of
the French Republic, presented the distinguished Chevalier de
la Legion dHonneur award to Dr Assia Alaoui, ex-member
of the ICARDA Board of Trustees and Professor at the University Mohamed
V, on 21 March 2005 in Rabat. This decoration was awarded to her in
recognition of her brilliant national as well as international career.
H.E. the Ambassador emphasized Dr Alaouis involvement in promoting
security in the region and encouraging the Euro-Mediterranean dialog.
He also highlighted Dr Alaouis role in strengthening relations
between France and Morocco. Dr Alaoui is the most French of
the Moroccan women. She is a woman of convictions with a life intimately
linked to our country, to our culture and to the outstanding relationship
between France and Morocco, he said.
Dr Alaoui thanked the French President for this distinguished award
and expressed her pleasure in being recognized for work often
done in the shadow and with pain.
