ICARDA Scientist Wins ASA Award
|

GThe
American Society of Agronomy (ASA) has announced that Dr John Ryan, Soil
Scientist at ICARDA, is the winner of the 2004 International Service
in Agronomy Award. This award is given to an individual who has had
major impact in agronomy at the international level and who has contributed
to the advancement of the agronomic and crop sciences in a significant manner.
Dr Ryan was selected from a long list of nominees for this prestigious award,
and is the first ICARDA scientist to be so honored. Previous recipients
from CGIAR Centers include: Pedro Sanchez (ICRAF), Rattan Lal (IITA), Norman
Borlaug and Sanjaya Rajaram (CIMMYT), and Ron Cantrell and G.S. Khush (IRRI). The award, which includes a citation and a cash prize, will be formally presented to Dr Ryan at this years Annual Meetings of the American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America in Seattle, Washington, 31 Oct.-4 Nov. 2004. |

and faba bean; and dry-area developing countries for the on-farm management
of water, improvement of nutrition and productivity of small ruminants (sheep
and goats), and rehabilitation and management of rangelands. In the Central
and West Asia and North Africa (CWANA) region, ICARDA is responsible for the
improvement of durum and bread wheats, chickpea, pasture and forage legumes
and farming systems; and for the protection and enhancement of the natural
