ICARDA Scientist Wins ASA Award
GThe American Society of Agronomy (ASA) has announced that Dr John Ryan, Soil Scientist at ICARDA, is the winner of the 2004 “International Service in Agronomy Award.” This award is given to an individual who has had major impact in agronomy at the international level and who has contributed to the advancement of the agronomic and crop sciences in a significant manner. Dr Ryan was selected from a long list of nominees for this prestigious award, and is the first ICARDA scientist to be so honored. Previous recipients from CGIAR Centers include: Pedro Sanchez (ICRAF), Rattan Lal (IITA), Norman Borlaug and Sanjaya Rajaram (CIMMYT), and Ron Cantrell and G.S. Khush (IRRI).

The award, which includes a citation and a cash prize, will be formally presented to Dr Ryan at this year’s Annual Meetings of the American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America in Seattle, Washington, 31 Oct.-4 Nov. 2004.
