Meeting with H.H. Rashid Khalfan Al Shariqi, Under Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, UAE.
As part of ICARDA's efforts to continue to strengthen its collaborative research programs with NARS, Dr Magdy Madkour, Director of International Cooperation, visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last month.

Mr Abdullah Moalla, Director of Central Region, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF), UAE, received Dr Madkour in his office on 28 November 2004. ICARDA’s Arabian Peninsula Regional Program (APRP) research and development activities in the UAE’s Central Region were discussed. The discussions covered the dissemination of information and technologies jointly generated by ICARDA and MAF, and the on-going adaptive research at the region’s research station at Al-Dhaid. Mr Moalla appreciated ICARDA-APRP efforts in the UAE and expressed keen interest to expand the joint research and development activities.

Dr Madkour then visited collaborative research and development activities of ICARDA-APRP and MAF at the Dhaid Research Station. These included the Seed Technology Unit, which has recently been established at Dhaid by ICARDA-APRP and MAF, with the support of ICARDA's Seed Unit. During the visit, Dr Madkour was accompanied by Dr Ahmed T. Moustafa, ICARDA-APRP Regional Coordinator, Dr Ahmed Osman, ICARDA-APRP rangeland and pasture specialist, and Eng Arash Nejatian, ICARDA-APRP information management aide.
