Research Technician
The Biodiversity and Integrated Gene Management Program
Aleppo, Syria
The Biodiversity & Integrated Gene Management Program (BIGMP) has immediate vacancies for two positions of Research Technician (GS4 - GS5 category) at ICARDA’s headquarters in Aleppo.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
The following will be the duties and responsibilities of the Research Technician reporting directly to the Barley Breeder:
•
 Supervision of labor; following up on land preparation
•
 Preparation, sowing, harvesting, threshing, and weed control of various barley improvement experiments
•
 Recording data on various aspects of barley improvement activities and bookkeeping of the breeding program
•
 Assisting in planting, preparation of field plans, and production of field books
•
 Computerizing pedigrees and data of different experiments, germplasm evaluations and breeding materials
•
 Preparing seed materials for different nurseries for planting at stations and farmers’ field in Syria and other countries
•
 Perform any other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
•
 Diploma in Agriculture or related subjects and considerable demonstrated ability in laboratory experimentation
•
 Five years experience in related field
•
 Good experience in laboratory techniques
•
 Ability to work in a team
•
 Computer data entry and analysis skills
•
 Fluency in English and Arabic
•
 Army training either completed or exempted
•
 Driving license


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The initial employment will be for one year. Further employment will depend on availability of funds. Starting salary will depend on relevant qualifications and experience. ICARDA provides 20 days annual leave, a savings scheme, and medical/life insurance.
