Proposal Writing Officer
Project Development and Grants Management Unit

ICARDA is seeking an experienced professional to fill the vacancy of Proposal Writing Officer to join the team of the Project Development and Grants Management Unit and to provide support to the Center in facilitating the development of quality project proposals with ICARDA researchers and their partners. The Proposal Writing Officer reports directly to the Head of the Unit, and is primarily responsible for formulation, reviewing and editing of quality project proposals, developed based on the priorities identified by the institutional resource mobilization strategy and/or in response to donors’ indications of interest. S/he is also expected to strengthen the Center’s capacity in project design and management, including training for ICARDA’s and NARS researchers and project managers.

ICARDA is an international autonomous, non-profit, research center supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ICARDA’s mission is to contribute to the improvement of livelihoods of the resource-poor in dry areas by enhancing food security and alleviating poverty through agricultural research and partnerships to achieve sustainable increases in agricultural productivity and income, while ensuring the efficient and more equitable use and conservation of natural resources. ICARDA has its headquarters in Aleppo, Syria and has several regional programs and counrty offices. ICARDA has a global mandate, and works through partnerships with a network of global, regional and national organisations.

Qualifications and Experience
An advanced research degree (Masters or PhD) in agriculture, international development or related field associated with ICARDA’s research programs.
Minimum of three- five years of relevant experience in drafting proposals for programs and projects related to agriculture/rural development.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Proven track record in development of successful project proposals in non-profit setting.
Familiarity with international donors and investors, and their funding opportunities.
Familiarity with use of logframe in formulation of projects.
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team and in a multicultural international environment.
Excellent analytical, information management and quantitative skills.

Terms of Appointment
The Proposal Writing Officer is an internationally recruited position and the initial contract period will be for 3 year, renewable based on performance. The salary is paid in US dollars. Benefits include housing allowance, paid home leave travel, a saving scheme, life and health insurance package, vehicle for business and personal use, and support for dependents’ education according to ICARDA Policy.
