‘Oasis’ is a
concept developed for a global Challenge Programme
to build international partnerships to bring
together the world’s best science to attack the
difficult problem of combating desertification. By
strengthening global research-for-development
partnerships, Oasis aims to generate synergies,
build critical mass and take integrated, inter-sectoral
approaches that overcome some of the stumbling
blocks of the past. Oasis is jointly convened by two
CGIAR Centers, ICRISAT and ICARDA.
Oasis is one of the three Challenge Programme
Concepts advanced to the pre-proposal stage
earlier this year. In order to develop this
pre-proposal, a Workshop is being organized at CIRAD/IRD
Agropolis facilities in Montpellier, France during
August 20-24, 2007. The stakeholders in the
development of the Oasis Pre-Proposal include National Agricultural Research
Systems, Regional Research
Organizations/Sub-Regional Organizations, Advanced
Research Institutions, Donor Agencies, Private
Sector, Civil Society Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, and the
CGIAR international agricultural
research-for-development Centers.
The main Workshop is scheduled for 3 days from 20-22
August. A smaller working group will complete the
document during 23-24 August. Participation is by
invitation only.
