EVENTS

Reading Week

To underline the importance of Reading, we have an “I love Reading” Week, twice a year: Fall into Reading and Spring into Reading. The daily activities vary from year to year, but are always fun activities that promote reading.

Activities include such things as:

Readers’ Theatre

Poetry Readings

Pocket Poetry – everyone carries a poem in their pocket to share at any time

Wearing readable T-shirts

Book character parade

Curl up and read

Buddy reading

Guest readers

Book Exchange

Some activities have proved so popular that they have become a regular on-going feature of elementary life. DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) is a daily activity in many classes; and FROGs (Fantastic Readers Obviously Grow) – parents sign a reading sheet daily every time their child reads at home and students become a FROG – is still going strong and has been for years!

Talent Show

When we have a talent show students are encouraged to perform in front of the IISA community and demonstrate their talents. Acts usually include singing, dancing, musical recitals, skits and comedy acts. Students prepare for this show at home and have to audition before being able to participate. Even kindergartners happily perform in front of a smiling audience!
