Dr Mona Bishay
|
| Dr. Mona Bishay is a development economist with more than 25 years of professional experience, of which 18 in the field of policy formulation, design, implementation and evaluation of agricultural and rural development programmes. She studied at Cairo University, the American University of Cairo and the University of Amsterdam, Holland where she obtained her Ph.D in Economics. She lectured on international economics and development theories and practice and conducted research at the Department of Economics, University of Western Australia. She practised agricultural development, project formulation and evaluation, and provided policy advice to government institutions of developing countries as well as United Nations Organizations. She authored a number of studies and publications on the implications of trade and agricultural price liberalization on resource allocation, rural unemployment and agricultural development in the Near East Region and elsewhere. Since 1990 Dr. Bishay assumed senior staff positions at the International Fund of Agricultural Development (IFAD). She served IFAD as a Senior Economist, Senior Evaluator, Deputy Director of the IFAD's Office of Evaluation and since 2004 Director of the Near East and North Africa Division, Programme Management Department. In July 2008 Dr. Bishay retired from IFAD and she is currently pursuing her professional career as an Adviser on Agricultural Investment and Development, and is a member of ICARDA's Board of Trustees and ICBA's Board of Directors. |
