Dr John Ryan to Receive the SSSA Distinguished Service Award
The Soil Science Society of America has awarded the 2007 Soil Science Distinguished Service Award to Dr John Ryan. He has been selected for this award in recognition of his lifetime contribution in the field of soil science throughout his career.

Dr Ryan will receive the award on 5 November 2007 at the Soil Science Society of America award ceremony in New Orleans. This is the first time the award has gone to a scientist outside of North America and Dr Ryan is the first CGIAR scientist to receive it.

The awards Dr Ryan has previously received are: The Benton Jones Award, International Crop Nutrition Award, International Service in Agronomy Award, International Soil Science Award, Distinguished Citizen Award from the University of Arizona, and Doctor of Science from University College Dublin. He is a Fellow of both the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Society of America. All his professional recognitions have been achieved since Dr Ryan joined ICARDA in 1992 as Soil Fertility Specialist.
