Dr Ahmed Amri Honored in Jordan
Dr Ahmed Amri, Head, Genetic Resources Section, was honored by Jordan's Ministry of Agriculture (left, plaque presented by Dr Radi Tarawneh) and the National Centre for Agricultural Research and Extension (right, plaque presented by Dr Faisal Awawdeh).
Dr Ahmed Amri, Head, Genetic Resources Section and formerly Regional Coordinator, ICARDA-WARP, attended the annual meeting of the Mashreq/Maghreb III project in November. During the meeting, Dr Faisal Awawdeh, Director General of Jordan's National Centre for Agricultural Research and Extension (NCARE), as well as ICARDA colleagues – Dr Mohamed El-Mourid, Regional Coordinator, NARP and Dr Nasri Haddad, Acting Regional Coordinator, WARP – thanked Dr Amri for all his contributions and hard work during the past six years in support of bilateral and regional activities.

Dr Amri was honored by the Jordanian government for his long-standing contributions. At a reception held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Amri received a special plaque from the Ministry, presented by Dr Radi Tarawneh, General Secretary; and the NCARE award, presented by Dr Faisal Awawdeh. At another ceremony, the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Jordan presented him an award for his contributions in research, teaching and advising graduate students. The ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and senior professors, including two former Ministers of Agriculture, Dr Mahmoud Duwayri and Dr Mustafa Qrunfleh.

Dr Amri, who will soon relocate from Amman to ICARDA headquarters, thanked to his Jordanian colleagues and other collaborators throughout West Asia, for making his stay in Jordan and his work in the region enjoyable and rewarding. He promised to continue to promote good collaboration in his new position as Head, Genetic Resources Section.
